Some pretty exciting milestones!!

Well, I am doing everything that I can to beat this plateau.  So far, the weight loss is slow, but I am going to beat this.  I am working really hard on my running right now.  I was so excited on Sunday when I got on the treadmill at the gym and actually ran (without stopping) a mile in 13 minutes!! I know to the avid runner that time is pretty slow, but for me it was great.  So last night I decided to try again and ran it in 12:45!  So, now that I know I can do it, I am going to keep working on getting the time down.  I also tried Zumba for the first time last weekend.  Now I am absolutely addicted!! I found a pretty cool game for the Wii that I can do at home, so I now try to Zumba as much as possible.

I find that I am still struggling with food.  Part of the problem is that I hate to cook.  So, one of my goals for the summer, is to learn to love cooking.  I figure the more I cook for Matt and myself at home, the more I will like it.  I also think that the lack of routine has really made it hard.  I am trying to get into a routine daily with my workouts and walking.

At my last session with the trainer we measured my body fat percentage again.  When I began the gym in April it was 49%.  Last week it had gone down to 41%!!!!!!!!!! Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!! So, even though I am not seeing pounds come off, I know I am burning tons of fat.

As of today, I am down a total of 52 lbs.  I bought a hot new dress ;) to celebrate.  So I think Matt and I are going to be enjoying a date night this weekend!! For those of you who are following along and working on your own weight loss, keep up the good work!!! If I can do it, anyone can do it!!

  1. Good for you, Carla. Keep it up, all of it. Exercise, eating right and getting healthy. Those are the main goals to stay focused on. Your words are the exact ones of mine a few years ago, "If I can do it, anyone can." I said that to everyone who was interested in hearing my story of weight loss. Keeping it all off is not always the easy part so it takes effort, but anything and everything that is worth anything is worth it, don't you agree. Like when you pursued your education and degree. That was worth it too and now you are a teacher making a difference in childrens' lives with stories to tell of your experiences. Same with weight loss, you will have your own sucess story to tell others and inspire and encourage other women wanting to try it too. One thing I have found in my weight loss control is keeping fiber, whole grains, fruits and vegetables a mainstay in my daily calorie count and keeping the other things (like a serving of dessert) at a lower or minimum amount or 'once in a while' kind of treat. Have a wonderful dinner out, and enjoy it. Then know that you can always go back home and work off some calories that you ate. Ha. When you get to be 64 someday like myself it will be harder to get easy excercise in when knees go bad, arthritis sets in, etc. but hopefully you are preventing some of that pain and trouble early on with taking off the lbs. now. When Wayne and I took our vacation a couple weeks ago our room at the Glacier Nat'l Park historic lodge was on the third floor and they do not have elevators or ramps there because it is all in its original pristine charachter and archetectual design so the constant up and down each of the four days there on those hard stairs to 3 floors really took its toll on my deteriorating knees so was really bothering me when we got back but we walked and hiked whenever we could (even in Grizzly bear habitat) and helped my knees and exercising and felt good, but then had all the driving and riding to do as well, covering over 2800+ mi. total between here and B.C. & Alberta, Canada. Take care. I love you. aunt Joyce

  2. Great job Carla! Keep up the good work! We will keep working together on the food. I will post some more healthy recipe sites tonight. I even found a spot to make some healthy snacks that don't even require cooking!!! I'm in the same boat as you. I have recently learned to love exercising...but the food part still has me all confused. Keep working at it. You'll work through the plateau. Change up your routine, and in a week or two you'll start seeing results. If you are running, try a class. Try switching it up a little, but stick with it. And if you go three days a week, stay on those three days for at least a month, then switch it up.
Keep up the good work! You are doing excellent!!!
